Fiji National Rugby League announce response plans for COVID- 19

FNRL PRELIMINARY RESPONSE PLAN TO COVID-19 VIRUS

In light of the Government’s announced measures in response to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Fiji National Rugby League is reviewing all its domestic and international events it plans to host in Fiji and overseas.

The health of our players and our rugby league communities remains paramount and we have to fully support the Government’s effort to detect, contain and mitigate situations brought about by COVID 19.

VODAFONE CUP

We have consulted with our sponsors and partners to review and weigh the options for the postponement of the commencement of the 2020 Vodafone Cup from the initially planned start date of 25th of April to the 18th of July 2020 for now. FNRL remains vigilant in monitoring the situation as it unfolds and will make necessary changes accordingly.

VODAFONE TROPHY & VODAFONE SHIELD COMPETITIONS

At this time, the Vodafone Secondary Schools Trophy and Vodafone Primary Schools Shield competitions will proceed this weekend. We have 2 more weeks until the end of the secondary schools season while the Primary Schools Final will take place on the 25th of April. We will continue to assess the viability of the competition each week. We are in close consultation with the Ministry of Education regarding the schools competitions.

This weekend we will have the national Vodafone Trophy quarterfinals at Garvey Park and Tavua College. In the northern division the Vodafone Primary Schools Dreketi Gala will take place at Maramarua District School with 7 participating primary schools.

RON MASSEY CUP GAMES

We recently witnessed a successful start to the Silktails season and FNRL congratulates the team. Now given the restrictions in place because of COVID19, the Silktails round 2 matches this Saturday is now cancelled. All future home and away games remains doubtful at this time as we also await the outcome of NSWRL meeting.

FIJI SECONDARY  SCHOOL BOYS NEW ZEALAND TOUR

Australia & New Zealand have announced mandatory 14 days isolation for travellers arriving into both countries through all their ports of entry. Given the rapid changes sweeping across the globe the league has decided after much careful thought to cancel the schoolboys' tour planned for April this year.
